Sunday saw the return of Loughborough Half Marathon. A combination of beautiful sunshine, streets lined with cheering supporters, over 500 excited runners ready to race and 8 months of intense preparations meant the day surpassed all expectations. My part in the race began several months a go when I agreed to sponsor the event in aid of local domestic abuse charity Living Without Abuse. I designed 2 training programmes that were available to download for free, recorded training podcasts, wrote a beginners guide to running a Half Marathon and since the start of the year I sent out weekly training newsletters to help all participants as well as leading a weekly running group in the build up to race day. Last Sunday, finally race day had arrived and I was keen to see all the hard work pay off - including my own training efforts. I had also agreed to lead the group warm up on stage which was a great way of getting everyone fired up and ready to race. The race began at 9am and 1 hour and 25 minutes later I was back at the Market Place having finished 1st female! Super impressed with my time (10 minutes quicker than the time I was hoping for and 12 minutes quicker than my last Half Marathon in October!) all my emotions got the better of me and the tears started. My fast finish ahead of 12 other Team 168 runners meant that I had time to get my breath back and welcome the other runners as they finished in personal best times. Overall, the day received a tremendous amount of feedback and many runners have already registered their interest for net year's race (you can do that here). I am so proud to have been involved in the organisation of the Loughborough Half and apparently I have to be involved again next year to defend my title of being the fastest female Half Marathon runner in Loughborough!
What a fantastic start to the week! My recovery included a busy Monday morning of Personal Training clients; a school Bounce-athon at Sutton Bonington on Tuesday which was fantastic in the sunshine; a day of school workshops hosted by Loughborough University on Wednesday with me talking about Sports Nutrition to over 100 Sports Scientists; a new Bounce session with Olympic swimmers Liam Tancock, Lizzie Simmonds, & co. and finally this morning a fab Bounce session with a group of Girl Guides in Loughborough. Call that recovery, ey?!
Next week is less busy busy, but probably more tiring than ever as I shall be leading the Easter holiday Kids Camp on behalf of Fit For Sport at Sutton-in-Ashfield's Lammas Leisure Centre. Then it's Easter weekend when I'll be personal training - helping clients burn off the chocolate eggs! - and back to Kids Camp on Tuesday for week 2.
I shall update again in a couple of weeks when I've recovered from Kids Camp. Finally, the total Fitness 10,000 count so far... Over 6,500 people!!
Have a good Easter - follow our top tips for burning off those Easter treats via Facebook of Twitter

The Loughborough Half Marathon is taking place this Sunday - 600 runners to add to my challenge!
It's a lovely sunny day outside - how are you enjoying the sunshine? Will you go out for a bike ride this weekend or a jog tomorrow morning? Or perhaps you are doing the Loughborough Half on Sunday with Team 168? Either way, be sure to get outside and soak up some Vitamin D whilst you can!
The long-awaited return of the Loughborough Half is finally here and onesixeight: fitness, the official training provider for the 13.1 mile race, will be there to warm up participants, motivating runners all the way to the finish line and celebrating with them afterwards. I am so excited for race day and can't wait to see everyone's hard training efforts (including my own) come together for a great race. Over 600 runners will start and finish in the Loughborough Market Place - and all runners will count towards my Fitness 10,000 challenge. My warm up starts at 8.30am and the race starts at 9am. If you are local and not taking part, please come and cheer us on instead. You can view the route here. Remember the clocks go forward tomorrow (Saturday) night so don't be late!
This week has been another busy week. 2 days were spent bouncing with children at Robert Bakewell Primary School in Loughborough and Oxley Primary School in Shepshed. I really enjoyed the 'Bounce-athons' and loved working with over 500 children over the two days. I have another Bounce-athon booked for next week at Sutton Bonington Primary School and others in the pipeline. All the children I bounce with at these events will count towards my Fitness 10,000 Challenge.
Yesterday, I totalled up my Fitness 10,000 progress so far and I'm up to 6,340 people! Only 3,660 to go (in 4 months). The pressure is on, but I WILL achieve this goal.
Finally, earlier today, I featured on BBC Radio Leicester with presenter Sally Pepper talking about Marathon training. This is the 3rd time I have been invited to speak on Radio Leicester (twice today in fact!) and I do enjoy it. You can listen to my advice here (approx 75 minutes in). I have challenged Sally to train with me and Team 168 for the Loughborough Race For Life on June 24th so you can look forward to hearing more of me on Radio Leicester giving helpful training advice for novice runners.
That's about it from me this week. Remember to cheer us on in Loughborough on Sunday or via Twitter. Look out for next week's Loughborough Echo for full race results and of course come back and read my blog next weekend to see how we all got on.
Enjoy the sunshine :-)

Let's Get Bouncing!
This week has been another mad week! A couple of new clients made great starts to their fitness programmes this week and existing clients are also progressing well. One in particular even asked me to up her training intensity because she didn't like the moderate intensity toning exercises and wanted to go out and get sweaty! Good for her and long may it continue!
In other news, I bounced with the children of Hemington Primary School on Tuesday. The school is only small but the 50 or so children who took part will all count towards my fitness 10,000 challenge which is set to get a boost next week when I do 3 bounce-athons and then the Loughborough Half Marathon too! I'm estimating 1200 new people to add to my challenge which will bring my total to nearly 7,000!! Very exciting!
The Loughborough Half is only 10 days to go and I'm very excited for the day. I've trained really hard myself and I know that my group of runners have all trained really hard too - we did 10x Thorpe Hill intervals on Tuesday in preparation for race day which was dedication in itself. I'm aiming for 1 hour 35 minutes and would like to beat my personal best of 1 hour 37 minutes. If, however, I don't run as fast I had hoped to then it's not the end of the world and I will be helping others get round the course in their own personal best times.
Finally for this week. It seems the world has gone bouncing mad today! A record number of Bounce Back into Shape DVD sales via Amazon in the past 24 hours. I send out all order as soon as they are received so everyone can say LET'S GET BOUNCING!!
Enjoy your week :-)

Save the Date! - 3rd July - Olympic Torch, Loughborough
I am so excited and we haven't even started planning yet!... On Tuesday, I had a meeting with Anne Mumford at Loughborough University to discuss organising a mass participation fitness event to celebrate the Olympic Torch passing through Loughborough on July 3rd. Anne, had sent me an email last week to ask if I would be interested in lending my support to the event and I had rather excitedly telephoned her to tell her I had a similar plan in mind to hold a mass participation mini-trampoline Bounce-athon at the University on the exact same day and for the exact same reason. I couldn't believe the coincedence of it all (hence my over-ethusiastic phone call!).
The meeting went well and we have decided that yes, an event of some discription will take place in which I will lead a fitness activity of some form. The exact details will be discussed in more depth next month. In the mean time I have also applied to Guinness World Records for this event to turn in to a world record attempt for the most people bouncing on mini-trampolines at one time. I am aiming to have 200 people all on mini-trampolines at the same time (imagine that!) and perhaps even more people participating in the bouncing routine on the floor. Anne mentioned that she would be aiming to reach out to 2000 school children!! My Fitness 10,000 Challenge would be smashed! I can't wait to get planning!!
In other news, March is getting pretty booked up. I've taken on new Personal Training clients and I have the Loughborough Half at the end of the month. I have also booked 4 Bounce-athons (Hemington Primary, Robert Bakewell Primary, Oxley Primary and Sutton Bonington Primary) so they will be keeping me busy too!
I am aiming to have surpassed the 7000 mark by the end of the month which is great but I still need more people to help get fit ahead of the Olympics in July. Please do get in touch if your son or daughter's school (in the Loughborough area) would like to hold a school Bounce-athon. I have 3 or 4 schools that are in discussions with me so fingers crossed they all book.
Until next week, keep bouncing!

Bouncing in to Springtime
What a great start to March. This week has been another exciting week with lots of new plans, new clients and things just slotting in to place. Firstly, I have booked filming for my new 'Bounce for Beginners' DVD which will be available in the summer. I shall also be filming for a new project which I shall announce more details of perhaps next week. Secondly, I have confirmed another Bounce-athon event and have 3 more in the pipeline. 1 school has even signed up to host an after-school club from April onwards which is fantastic. I'm currently leading a netball after-school club at this school in Sutton Bonington and I'm sure the Bounce group will be even more popular. More information about the School Bounce-athon events can be found here
Thirdly, existing clients have made some fantastic progress since the start of the year. They are achieving weight loss goals, losing inches and beating their personal best times in training. Not only that, but they are enjoying the sessions and making exercise a regular part of their lifestyle - which is always my main aim with clients. Each personal training client counts towards my Fitness 10,000 challenge so I'm always on the look out for people who need my help. Programmes are usually 6 - 12 weeks in length and 1 - 3 sessions per week which makes the programme achievable and always shows great results. Find out more info here
In other news this week, I have submitted an application for a World Record Attempt! My claim is in anticipation of a mass participation Bounce-athon that I shall be organising in conjunction with Loughborough University. The event shall coincide with the Olympic Torch passing through Loughborough on July 3rd. I'm hopeful that Guinness World Records will see the potential of the event where I shall aim to have 200 people bouncing all at the same time. I shall invite local residents & clients to bring their trampettes to the event so we can have as many people participating as possible. I shall report more information on the event plans as we go along.
Yesterday, I was in London for part 2 of my Olympic Games Maker training. I found out yesterday that I shall be working behind the scenes at the Aquatics Centre assisting with the Press Operations. I am very excited to be involved with the Games and the opportunity to be at one of the best venues of the Games. I find out next month when I shall be working exactly but I know I shall be in London for 2 months for the Olympics and Paralympics. I realised yesterday that I shall definitely be needing lots of caffeine when I'm there - came back last night absolutely shattered even after just 1 day!! Or perhaps I'll be still buzzing from the elation of achieving my Fitness 10,000 goal and the mass Bounce-athon event that I'll manage without.
Next week, I shall be continuing the great start to the Spring with my own training for the Loughborough Half (which is only 3 weeks away!) and helping others with their training too. I will have my first article on the latest fitness trends printed in The Beacon magazine (out on Friday) and then I shall be helping deliver the magazine next weekend. I will also be bouncing with the group classes and personal training clients and perhaps some ViPR workouts in there too.
Enjoy your weekend and keep following @onesixeightfit on Twitter and Facebook as we've got lots of great tips for keeping active and healthy in the Spring.
